Should I hire a part time admin or a full time admin?
Part time suits a small business with a few hours of paperwork a day; full time suits one where customers message all day and the admin also runs payroll and accounts. Many owners now start with an AI admin and add a part timer for the work that needs a person.
When part time works
Invoices, a few payments and a weekly payroll run fit into two or three hours a day. A part timer costs less, but customers who message outside those hours wait.
When you need full time
Customers ask on WhatsApp all day, you have several staff on shifts, and payments come in daily. Then the work does not fit into a few hours.
What to check either way
Part timers still need a written agreement, and EPF, SOCSO and EIS apply to them too. Overtime and leave rules depend on their hours and pay.
How Mei helps
Mei covers the hours no person does: she answers customers at night, sends invoices and payment reminders, and keeps payroll and leave in order. A part timer can then handle the bank, the post and the customers who walk in.
