How do I pay part-time staff by the hour?
Agree an hourly rate in writing, record the hours each part-timer works, and pay hours times rate with overtime and rest day rates on top. EPF, SOCSO and EIS still apply. In Lucco Boss part-timers clock in on their phone, the month's hours add up by themselves, and payroll works out the deductions.
The rules to know
Under the Employment (Part-Time Employees) Regulations, a part-timer works more than 30% and up to 70% of a full-time staff's normal hours. Their hourly rate cannot be below the minimum wage worked out per hour, and work past their normal hours, on rest days or public holidays is paid at higher rates. Check the current figures with JTK or your accountant.
How do I trust the hours?
Let part-timers clock in and out on their own phone, with the time taken from the server, so the hours are hard to change. If you want, make them clock in by your shop's QR code. A shift roster shows who should be in, so late and early leaving are easy to see.
How Lucco Boss does it
Add each person as Part-time in HR and give them a shift on the weekly roster. At month end the attendance sheet shows each person's hours. Enter the month's pay from those hours in payroll, and Boss works out EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB and sends the payslip to their phone. Free for up to 5 staff.
